PATRICK GREEN WINS IN DRAMATIC PLAYOFF

Patrick Green was a popular winner at this years edition of the Westford Sharjah Cup. After many years of trying the SGSC member finally got his name up on the honors board by winning this great event. A strong field all competed 36holes in what at times was challenging conditions. After the morning round it was Normandy Federico and Ahmad Jaffar who were tied for the lead on 35 points whilst eventual Champion Patrick was placed just 2 points back after a steady round of 33 points. Ahmad Jaffer took home the trophy for the best net in the first round but unfortunately for Ahmad he fell away in the second round. The second round lit up with some fantastic scores all through the field, but it was Sami Butt and Patrick Green who blew the field away. Both players posted excellent rounds of 37 points whilst playing off 7/8th of their handicaps this was some great golf. Sami had a great round picking up 4 net birdies and dropping just 3 shots, he has been working very hard on his game and his latest results are more than deserved. Patricks 37 points consisted of an impressive 6 net birdies gaining him enough points to force a playoff with Sami on a combined total of 70 points. Patrick and Sami went back to play the 18th and after two good drives was all to play for, Patrick Pushed his second shot to the right of the green and faced a difficult chip under a tree. Sami hit and sublime second shot straight at the flag but perhaps some adrenaline caused the ball to fly too far and finish over the back of the green. Patrick produced what can only be described as quite an unbelievable up and down for a 4 net 3 that Sami could not match, giving Patrick the title. In third place 2 shots back was first round leader Normandy Federico with scores of 34/34 for 68 points. Round 2 net winner was last years Champion Ravi AE on a great score of 35 points.
In the Gross division it was a similar face on the stage, SGSC youngster Xu Zi Ang (William) added another trophy to his already very impressive collection this season by posting 2 level par rounds of 36 points for a total of 72. Round 1 gross prize was won by Namir Al Naimi on 29 points, while second round was won by Namirs good friend Ben Mulvaney who scored 28 points.
As always this event was played in a great and highly competitive spirit, with all competitors loving the challenge of the course and praising the sponsors Westford Universty College for their support in the event.
