In the 2010/11 season Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club launched a truly innovative and unique concept, the first UAE Golf Society League. The event pooled 24 UAE Golf Societies into 4 separate leagues. Each league played 1 fixture a month from January until May 4 Societies then qualified for the semi final and the final that were held throughout June. The success of the event resulted in year the number of teams qualifying to the quarter finals from each league being increased to 2. This also meant that the league ran for longer from October, culminating in the final, the third and fourth place play off and the Captains and Sponsors day on April.

GSL Press Release 23 Rnd 4

BANDENIA Golf Society League supported by MyGolf Dubai gets underway at SGSC

The Bandenia Golf Society League supported by MyGolf Dubai returned for round four at Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club on Saturday the 1st of April. A total of ten societies from all over the UAE have joined us for this season of GSL all trying to stake their claim to be Bandenia Golf Society League Champions. The ten societies have been split into two leagues with top four in each league and moving into the knock out stages.
BANDENIA LEAGUE

KEGS battled it out against FIGME in what is KEGS final game in the group stages, some brilliant golf was played by both societies and each society won a match each on the day. KEGS and FIGME added three points each to their league total and are both sitting nicely in the league however will have to wait to see how the final group match pans out. The other game in the Bandenia league was the Nepalese Golf Society against SGSC Social, and what a match up it was. Both matches could not be closer and one could not be separated as they tied on the same score of thirty six points, Nepalese GS won the other match and in doing so now sit atop of the league. GTI are the fifth society in this league they had a rest week and will be ready to battle in the next round of fixtures.

MYGOLF DUBAI LEAGUE

The first match in the MyGolf Dubai League saw Sports to Business battle it out against the Sharjah Golf Society. Local knowledge proved too much for Sports to Business as Sharjah won both of the matches on the day and added six points to their league table. The other match in the MyGolf league saw The Golf Dragons face the challenge of arguably the favorites for the tournament due to not yet losing a match Team International. Team International once again proved how strong they are winning both their matches and they are sitting on top of the MyGolf Dubai league. MyGolf Dubai make up the remainder of this league and will join us once more in the next fixture.

With one league fixture remaining both leagues are set up brilliantly and we can not wait to see how the leagues progress. As well as the matches, competitors had a chance to win day prizes for best betterball stableford score. Congratulations to Peter Moran & Stuart Cassidy (KEGS GS) on their win in the Day’s prizes from the 1st of April 2023. They both won MyGolf Dubai voucher plus 125AED pro shop vouchers for their efforts. Second place was won by Mukti Rai & Vivian Verma (Nepalese Golf Society) giving them both MyGolf Dubai vouchers plus a 100AED pro shop voucher each.

The next round of the GSL will be hosted at SGSC on the 15st of April . There will also be the day’s prizes up for grabs for any additional players.

BANDENIA Golf Society League supported by MyGolf Dubai gets underway at SGSC

Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club welcomed back some familiar faces and some new societies for the first round of the Bandenia Golf Society League supported by MyGolf Dubai. A total of ten societies from all over the UAE have joined us for this season of GSL all trying to stake their claim to be Bandenia Golf Society League Champions. On Saturday 25th of February societies descended on SGSC trying to get their league campaign off to a fast start.

BANDENIA LEAGUE

First up in the Bandenia league was SGSC social Society face KEGS in what was set to be a great match. SGSCs local knowledge proved to be too much for KEGS as the SGSC social produced some great golf on the day to win both matches and six points being added to their league total. The second match up in the league was also set to be a hotly contested affair with the Nepalese Golf Society face off against GTI. The Nepalese produced some of the best golf on the day out of all the societies and unfortunately for GTI they were on the receiving end of it. The Nepalese GS added six points to their league total. Filipino Golfers in the Middle East are the fifth society in this league they had a rest week and will be ready to battle in the next round of fixtures.

MYGOLF DUBAI LEAGUE

The first match in the MyGolf Dubai League saw familiar faces return the GSL in the form of Sports to Business and they played against the Golf Dragons. The matchup was a very close affair as both societies played brilliantly and the end result was a tie both societies winning a match each and securing a point each for their league efforts. The other match saw our supporters MyGolf Dubai face off against past winners of the GSL team International. Experience came out on top as team International won both matches on the day resulting in a strong start to their campaign. The Dubai Divots make up the remainder of this league and will join us next month for their first round.

All three leagues are set up brilliantly and we can not wait to see how the leagues progress. As well as the matches, competitors had a chance to win day prizes for best betterball stableford score. Rigid Golf Society League

Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club hosted the Semi-Finals for the Rigid Golf Society on Saturday the 27th of March.

Four societies who eased through the knockout stages via their league position and were victorious in last week’s quarter-finals descended to battle it out to see who would be this year’s finalists of the Golf Society League. The societies played Fourball Betterball Matchplay and there was some excellent golf on display. Team International Golf Society who has been a force to be reckoned with this year faced the challenge of a very strong Angry Birdies team. Angry Birdies put on a show on the day winning one match and coming out all square on the other match to progress into the final. Team International captain Phil Arnold and his team were delighted with their victory. Congratulations to Team International on what has been a successful campaign and just falling agonizingly short. Sharjah Night Riders who have arguably been the strongest society throughout the league faced off against Spartans Golf Society. Spartans held their nerves on the day and overcame very stiff opposition from Sharjah Night Riders, all involved with Spartans Golf Society are delighted to be in the final in their first year in the event. Again congratulations to the Sharjah Night Riders for their efforts.

The final is setting up to be a classic, as is the 3rd v 4th place play off, SGSC also invites all captains of all the societies to take part in the patrons’ challenge and we are all thoroughly looking forward to it. The final and Patrons Challenge will take place on Friday the 9th of April.

Rigid Golf Society League

RIGID INDUSTRIES Golf Society League moves into the knockout stage

Rigid Industries Golf Society League returned to Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club on the 13th of February.  Fifteen societies from all over the UAE have joined us for this season of GSL all trying to stake their claim to be Rigid Industries Golf Society League Champions. The fifteen societies have been split into three leagues with top two in each league and the best two societies in third place moving into the knock-out stages.

RIGID LEAGUE

Three societies progressed to the next round from the Rigid Industries league. We had a shock result as we saw defending champions White Rose Golf Society crash out of the league after losing on the day to GTI golf society. Topping the league was the society of Team International who will be difficult to beat this year and are producing some great golf.  Filipino Golfers in the Middle East(FIGME) also progressed into the next round from the Rigid League.

WORLDWIDE GOLF LEAGUE

Happy Hookers continue their fine form winning both matches on the day against the Dubai Divots to remain top of the league.  Spartans Golf Society has only lost one match throughout the league as the top the WWG League and are looking like potential favorites to be this year’s champions. They were joined by the Happy Hookers who secured the second spot in the league and delighted to progress.

SGSC LEAGUE

The Angry Birdies Golf Society secured their spot in the knockout stages after continuing their fine reign of form. Sharjah Night Riders also move into the next round finally joined by the Nepalese Golf Society who just scraped by.

Some big names have progressed to the knockout stages and its set up for some excellent matches. As well as the matches, competitors had a chance to win day prizes for best betterball stableford score.  Congratulations to Rajesh Chitti & Ravi AE (Team International) on their win in the Day’s prizes from the 13th of February 2021. RIGID INDUSTRIES Golf Society League

RIGID INDUSTRIES Golf Society League returns for round two at SGSC

Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club hosted the second round of the ever popular Rigid Industries Golf Society League. Fifteen societies from all over the UAE have joined us for this season of GSL all trying to stake their claim to be Rigid Industries Golf Society League Champions. The fifteen societies have been split into three leagues with top two in each league and the best two societies in third place moving into the knock out stages. On Saturday 12th of December twelve societies descended on SGSC trying to get their league campaign off to a fast start.

RIGID LEAGUE
In the Rigid Industries league we saw defending champions White Rose Golf Society play their first match after a rest week. White Rose showed why they were victorious last year as they continued this fine form to win both matches against Filipino Golfers in the Middle East(FIGME). GTI Golf Society who were runners up last year have had a slow start to this seasons campaign. Team International Golf Society proved to be too strong for GTI and won both matches on the day adding six points to their total and to sit nicely at the top of their league.

WORLDWIDE GOLF LEAGUE
Happy Hookers returned to event after a rest week last month with a bang, producing some great golf they overcame the challenge of KEGS Golf Society and won both matches on the day. A new Society the Spartans are looking like ones to watch this season as they played brilliantly and defeated the Dubai Badgers in both matches.

SGSC LEAGUE
Sharjah Night Riders comfortably won both matches against SGSC society and they sit nicely at the top of the SGSC league and are another new society to keep an eye on this season. The Sultans of Swing couldn’t overcome the challenge of the Nepalese Golf Society, The Nepalese produced some very solid golf and claimed all six points that were up for grabs on the day.

All three leagues are set up brilliantly and we can not wait to see how the leagues progress. As well as the matches, competitors had a chance to win day prizes for best betterball stableford score. Congratulations to Mohan GC & Cpt. Zein Ismail (International GS) on their win in the Day’s prizes from the 12th of December 2020. They both won 150AED pro shop vouchers for their efforts. Special congratulations to Mohan GC who recorded a hole in one the third hole after a perfectly struck 8 iron found the bottom of the cup. Second place was won by Namir Al Naimi & Mansour Al Maazmi (Spartans Golf Society) giving them both a 100AED pro shop voucher. The next round of the GSL will be hosted at SGSC on the 9th of January.

White Rose finally get their hands on Golf Society League trophy

Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club were delighted to host the final and patrons day of its eagerly anticipated Golf Society League on Saturday 27th of June. The final of the popular event supported by BMW and World Wide Golf was scheduled for 11th of April and thankfully the finalists waited patiently so we could conclude the event.

The final saw the golf Societies of White Rose and GTI battle it out in the final and it couldn’t have been closer. White Rose Golf Society made up of SGSC Captain Rory Thomson, Ryan Taylor and low handicappers Ben Mulvaney and Namir Al Naimi eventually came out on top and saw off the challenge of GTI. Both societies won a match each on the day so a sudden death play-off would determine the winners. A very solid par 4 from Namir Al Naimi saw White Rose crowned champions, white rose captain Rory Thomson was delighted to get the win after a sore loss in last years final.

GTI society made up of Andrew Thom, Eamonn Al-Rifai, Martin Rodden and Ahmed Musley played some great golf and were unlucky to lose out on the day.

The third/fourth place play off saw GEMS society take on The Angry Birdies, GEMS proved to much for The Angry Birdies winning both matches and taking third place in their first year in the event.

As always both matches were played in great spirit, as the GSL concludes for another season SGSC congratulates all participating Societies on another successful year.

The final always sees the return of some familiar faces with the Patrons Day. SGSC invites all the captains and sponsors back to play in the event. Playing from the white and yellow tees in an individual stableford format there was some great scores on the day considering the current temperature. Taking top spot was Mujahid Siddiqui with a sensational score of 39 stableford points. SGSC member Mohan GC was very unlucky not to go home with the top prize with a score of 38. Third place went to one of our sponsors Jordan Smith from World Wide Golf with a score of 35 points.

In the BMW league we saw top of the league The Angry Birdies play last years champions the Filipino Golfers in the Middle in what was set to be a great match. White Rose played KEGS 1 both societies won a match each and moved into the quarter finals with White Rose finishing second and KEGS 1 taken the final spot in fourth place. Construction Executive Golf Society faced Gulf Rock and couldn’t be separated halving both matches but unfortunately for them don’t make the next stage of the event.

WORLDWIDE GOLF LEAGUE
The first match in the Worldwide Golf League saw our new society to the GSL GEMS International School Staff tussle with KEGS 2. The Societies won a match each adding three points to their league total this was enough for GEMS to progress in second place in the league but KEGS 2 are no longer involved. Happy Hookers and The International golf society were tied on points in the league and remained that way after the days play both winning a match each. Happy Hookers secured third spot on count back as The International were happy to progress in fourth. We now move onto the knockout stages and some excellent golf has been played we are all excited to see the outcome of the 11th Golf Society League.
