Adhip Flies To Victory 5TH Air Arabia Seniors Open Golf Championship

Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club hosted its 5th Air Arabia Seniors Open Golf Championship on Saturday 10th February 2018, with a full field of fifty years and above golfers battling it out to become the fifth champions, the day was set for a great days play.
A home player of Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club Adhip Shankar rose to the top during the day’s play & was evenly crowned champion achieving an impressive 39 Stableford points in perfect golfing conditions on the champion. Adhip started the day off very well, posting three net birdies on holes one, five & six he was one of the early contenders for the 2018 title. However he was brought back down to earth with back to back Bogies on the ninth & tenth holes & would have to dig deep on the back nine to get back on track. Birdies on the eleventh, thirteenth & Sixteen would do just that & with just the one additional Bogy he would return a championship winning score of 39, matching the 2017 winning score recorded by Max Munaf. As well as being crowned Champion Adhip had the added benefit of securing a place in the Pro-am for Sharjah Golf Masters presented by Shurooq on the 6th March 2017, a unique opportunity to play alongside some of the biggest names on the Staysure Tour.
Second place was a hard-fought battle throughout the day & it went to Emirates Golf Federation member Anthony Stroud who carded 35 points with five net birdies, his days play was certainly a rollercoaster ride of 18 holes. Anthony narrowly beat out Mahamad Bin Dan, who finished at the top of a group of four people all finishing on 34 points. The group included; Patrick Green, Zein Ismail & Tim Craig. Mahamad finished top of the group by virtue of a scorecard play-off. From the group on 34 Tim Craig of SGSC collected the Super Senior trophy, finishing top of the 24 competitor Super Senior category. In the ladies category Jacqui Stewart of SGSC won best lady with 30 points as she fought off the tough opposition.
The Club welcomed Steven Kelbrick from Trump International Golf club and he put in a great performance to take home the Championship’s Gross trophy on a score of 36 gross Stableford points, a great round under Championship conditions & the perfect preparation his debut on the Staysure Tour, in the Sharjah Senior Golf Master on the 8th to the 10th March.
