Mukti Rai Hosts SGSC Captain’s Day

The afternoon of Friday 4th May saw only the Sixth ever Captain’s Day at Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club, with the honor of Captaincy this season falling to Mukti Rai. Captain’s Day in any golf club is a special date in the Calendar and Mukti’s would prove to be no different as all Mukti’s closes friends and SGSC members came along to supports him in celebrating an historic year for both Mukti and SGSC on a whole following the second Sharjah Senior Golf Masters event to be held at the club.
With perfect blue skies and a golf course in fabulous condition the stage was set for a fantastic day of golf with unusual tees boxes and challenges, Keeping all competitors on their toes, as they set out on their quest to become only the sixth ever person to have their name in scripted on the Captain’s Day board.
After Mukti came so close winning the Tournament last year in his year as vice-Captain he was keen to take on the field as Captain and hosted a Beat the Captain nearest pin Challenge on the 8th Holes. He played the hole with each group, throwing down the gauntlet each time. The challenge made for some fantastic banter between the players & enabled them to collect additional team points to add to their total stablefod score. The winning team on the day was made up of some quality golfers, Faizeen Bhyat, Namir Al Naimi, Salim Shaikh & Shaheen Butt. They combined incredibly well to post a score of 93 points. Recording a total of fourteen net birdies & three net eagles between the four of them over the 18 holes. They took victory by a margin of six points over nearest competitors Martin Duff, Will Gilson, Hans Ettengruber & Rajesh Chitti.
The individual prize this year went down to the wire between three of the big names at the Club, Salim Shaikh, Ramli Sulaiman & Faizeen Bhyat. Salim posted an impressive 37 Stableford points to clinch the top spot, Salim finished with a net birdie on the 18th hole to push himself one better from the cashing duo of Ramli & Faizeen. Ramli started his day off well but had a rough patch in the middle of the round, dropping four shots in quick succession. Despite this, he rallied well & returned three Birdies over holes 15, 16 & 18 to post a Stableford score of 36. Faizeen too posted 36 points but couldn’t match Ramli’s back nine score & was beaten to second place via a scorecard playoff.
With the Captain Mukti providing a whole host of superb Acer prizes for the members the awards kept on coming, Ramli was nearest the pin on 3rd & 12th, Suresh Shewakramani was nearest pin on the 8th & 17th & the big hitting Roger Ledeboer took home the longest drive prize. Before the event there was also Academy Challenges including a Blindfold longest drive which was won by (Boom, Boom) Sinar Suraj and a putting challenge won by Ravi AE .After a superb day’s golf the Captain took to the stage and thanked of the members for the support throughout the course of the season & for making his captain’s day one to remember.
