13th SGSC Men’s Open Golf Championship 2020

Sensational Round from Hill to Claim SGSC Mens Open Title ?️??
Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club played host to the 13th Men’s Open Golf Championship on the weekend of the 4th & 5th December. The event was fantastically supported with over seventy five golfers featuring some of the best golfers from across the UAE, with a mixture of young guns bidding to put their mark on the event & the seasoned master craftsmen of the game.
The weekend event was hotly contested and the course was in fantastic condition and praised by the competitors. Day one saw SGSC youngster Xu Zi Ang come hot out of the blocks & posted impressive score of four under par sixty eight. Xu Zi was closely followed by Dan Byrne and David Guinee who were just one shot a drift at the halfway mark. Some big names also sitting nicely moving into the final round including Trump Internationals Josh Hill and just two shots back.
Overnight leader Xu Zi Ang surely must have thought that posting a score of seventy three would have been enough to be victorious. Josh Hill had other ideas, Josh posted an incredible score of nine under par sixty three adding to his seventy yesterday put him top of the pile on a total score of one hundred and thirty three, eleven under par. Joshs round included a spell of seven birdies in a row to catapult him up the leaderboard and see him be crowned SGSCs 13th Mens Open Champion. Defending champion Toby Bishop had a great defence of his title with a second round score of sixty eight saw him claim second spot eight shot behind our eventual champion. David Guinee representing Trump International Golf Club claimed third spot only losing to Toby for 2nd spot via virtue of a countback.
SGSC member Xu Zi Ang picked up the prize for Day one’s best score with a score of sixty eight. The Day two best score went to James Nash with a great score of two under par seventy.
The first place net was won by SGSC member Mohan GC who had a very solid weekend of golf. Mohan topped the net divison with a total of seven under par winning by just a single stroke. Runner up went to Steve Duque who posted a score of net ten under in the second round but unfortunately for Steve wasn’t enough to catch Mohan. Third place went to EGC member Saad Attiq Picking up the best day one net score was George Liu with a score of sixty nine for the SGSC member. The day two best score went to Sharjah Golf & Shooting club member Rory Thomson as he showed his experience around the course to post a level par seventy two.
The event was played in a great spirit and a record number of competitors for the SGSC Mens Open and was highly competitive all the way to the last putt.
