Hole in One at the second round of the 11th Golf Society League

Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club were once again extremely pleased to welcome back a strong contingent of golf societies all vying to become the 2019-2020 Golf Society League Champions. Twelve societies from all over the UAE descended on SGSC for the second round. The twelve societies have been split into two leagues with top four in each league moving into the knock out stages.

BMW LEAGUE

Continuing their fine form from the first round The Angry Birdies Society again put on a dominant display against the society of White Rose winning both their matches and claiming the full six points on offer. It was similar story as well for last year’s winners Filipino Golfers in the Middle East (FIGME) who brushed aside the challenge of Construction Executive Golf Society (CEGS) winning both matches. Third and final match in this league saw KEGS – 1 golf society get off the mark and get their first points on the board. Some great golf was played by KEGS and won the full six points on offer against Gulf Rock and saw them move up the league.

WORLDWIDE GOLF LEAGUE

The first match in the Worldwide Golf League saw spectacularly a hole in one on the third hole from Gavin Taylor a member of the new Society to the event the Gems International School Staff (GISS). GISS played some solid golf and won both their matches against Sports to business. The second match in the league saw The International Golf Society produce some excellent golf to overcome the challenge of KEGS 2. A very strong start from the International Golf Society and they will be difficult to beat. Finally the match between GTI Golf Society and the Happy Hookers were very close but GTI came out on top winning both matches on the day.

Both leagues are starting to take shape with some societies already looking very strong, we are all very excited to see the outcome of the 11th Golf Society League.

As well as the matches, competitors had a chance to win day prizes for best betterball stableford score. Congratulations to Drew Steedman & Tony Stroud (KEGS 1 GS) on their win in the Day’s prizes from the 30th of November 2019. They both won 200AED pro shop vouchers for their efforts. Second place was won by Le Jan Leyble & Arnel Valecia (FIGME) giving them both a 175 AED pro shop voucher. Third place was claimed by Andrew Thom & Clive Piper (GTI GS) receiving 125AED pro shop vouchers each.

The next round of the GSL will be hosted at SGSC on the 14th of December. There will also be the day’s prizes up for grabs for any additional players.
