RIGID INDUSTRIES Golf Society League supported by BMW gets underway at SGSC

Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club welcomed back some familiar faces and some new societies for the first round of the Rigid Industries Golf Society League supported by BMW.  A total of fifteen societies from all over the UAE have joined us for this season of GSL all trying to stake their claim to be Rigid Industries Golf Society League Champions. The fifteen societies have been split into three leagues with top two in each league and the best two societies in third place moving into the knock out stages. On Saturday 21st of November twelve societies descended on SGSC trying to get their league campaign off to a fast start.

RIGID LEAGUE

In the Rigid Industries league we saw past winners of the event Filipino Golfers in the Middle East(FIGME) face last years runners up GTI Golf Society in what was set to be a great match. FIGME proved to be too strong for GTI producing some fantastic golf and winning both matches on the day resulting in six points being added to their league total.  The second match up in the league was also set to be a hotly contested affair with GEMS Golf Society playing Team International GS. The teams could not be separated on the day both winning a match and getting off the marks with three points each. White Rose are the fifth society in this league they had a rest week and will be ready to battle in the next round of fixtures.

 WORLDWIDE GOLF LEAGUE

The first match in the Worldwide Golf League saw a new society The Dubai Badgers Golf Society face KEGS Golf Society. The experience of KEGS came out on top winning both matches on the day resulting in a strong start to their campaign.  The other match in the WWG league saw two more new societies battle it out with Dubai Divots Golf Society play Spartans Golf Society again another very close affair as both societies played brilliantly and the end result was a tie both societies winning a match each. Happy Hookers make up the remainder of this league and will join us next month for their first round.

SGSC LEAGUE

Sharjah Night Riders versus the Sultans of Swing kicked off the first round matches in the SGSC league, The Sharjah Night Riders local knowledge resulted in a comfortable win and recorded all six points that were up for grabs. The final match of the day was Nepalese Golf Society face the challenge of the Angry Birdies. This match saw our third tie on the day as both societies could not be separated, both getting off to a steady start and three points to their tally.

All three leagues are set up brilliantly and we can not wait to see how the leagues progress. As well as the matches, competitors had a chance to win day prizes for best betterball stableford score. Congratulations to Rajesh Chitti & Ramli Sulaiman (International GS) on their win in the Day’s prizes from the 21st of November 2020. They both won 150AED pro shop vouchers for their efforts. Second place was won by Tom McAndrew & Murray McCulloch (Gems Intl School Staffs, GIS) giving them both a 100AED pro shop voucher. The next round of the GSL will be hosted at SGSC on the 12th of December.
