Play Off drama at SGSCs Club Championships
Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club played host to the 12th Men’s Golf Club Championships on Saturday the 7th of November. SGSC members all trying to stake their claim to be the 12th club champion, with a mixture of young guns bidding to put their mark on the event & the seasoned master craftsmen of the game.
It was George Liu who topped the pile after a grueling thirty seven holes, George was tied with fellow low handicapper after thirty six holes and a fantastic birdie on the first extra hole saw him claim his first SGSC club championship title. Mike Robson lead the way most of the day posting the best score from round one seventy six. Unfortunately for Mike he saw this lead slip on his last hole. Other noticeable round one scores were George Liu and Christofer Bagge who were nicely placed moving into the second round. Namir Al Naimi was the unlucky runner up his thirty six hole total of one hundred and fifty eight saw him make the play off against George. A very steady par on the first extra hole was not enough for Namir as he watched George hole a monster putt from the front of the green as the pair played the 18th for the third time on the day. Third place went to Andy Thom with a steady day of golf only narrowly missing out on the play off by a single stroke.
In the ladies section it was Maria Bagge who finished top of the leaderboard. Maria was delighted with her win on the day and was also a first time champion in the event. The final prizes of the weekend would be in the net division and it was new member Christopher Andrews who lead the way for the majority of the way. A total of one hundred and forty two saw him sit nicely at the top of the pile.
The event was played in a great spirit on a course in brilliant condition and was highly competitive all the way to the last putt.
