11th Golf Society League gets underway at SGSC

Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club were once again extremely pleased to welcome back a strong contingent of golf societies all vying to become the 2019-2020 Conares Golf Society League Champions. Twelve societies from all over the UAE descended on SGSC for the first one in this season’s event. The twelve societies have been split into two leagues with top four in each league moving into the knock out stages.

BMW LEAGUE

The Angry Birdies Society a familiar society in the event came out of the blocks fast against the society of Construction Executives winning both their matches and claiming the full six points on offer. The second match of the day in the BMW league saw last year’s winners Filipino Golfers in the Middle East (FIGME) face KEGS-1 who for the first time have entered two teams into the event. Unfortunately for KEGS-1 last year’s winners FIGME proved to be too strong as FIGME won both their matches and saw a strong start to their defense of the title. The final match in this league was White Rose Golf Society who produced some great golf of the day with both pairings winning each of their matches against Gulf Rock golf Society.

WORLDWIDE GOLF LEAGUE

The first match in the Worldwide Golf League saw a new Society to the event the Gems International School Staff (GISS) who faced a tough prospect of GTi Golf Society in their first match. Both soceities playes some solid golf and could not be separated on the day winning a match each and adding three points each to their names on the leaderboard. The second match in the league saw The International Golf Society despite two very close games claim full points in offer against Sports to Business Golf Society. Finally the match between The Happy Hookers and KEGS-2 again matches were very close but The Happy Hookers came out on top winning both matches on the day.

Both leagues are already highly competive and some great golf was on display in the first round we are all very excited to see the outcome of the 11th Golf Society League.

As well as the matches, competitors had a chance to win day prizes for best betterball stableford score. Congratulations to George Fitchet & Rory Thomson (White Rose GS) on their win in the Day’s prizes from the 9th of November 2019. They both won 200AED pro shop vouchers for their efforts.
